How To Make Extra Income Selling at Fairs, Festivals and Craft Shows
Ever walk through a weekend event or county fair and spend every last dollar in your wallet? Did you ever wonder just how much money those vendors were making? Would you like to put a couple extra hundred dollars in your pocket on the weekend?
The first question I’m usually asked about vending is how to get started. I would recommend going to a couple of events and looking around. Really analyze the vendors. Look at their products and see if there are any that capture your interest. If you already have a product idea, check to see if there are any competitors. Analyze the crowd and look at what they are buying and decide if your product idea would be a good fit for that market.
Once you have decided on a product, find and book an event. This is a relatively easy process. Most events have either a contact person or a link on their websites for vendors. Fill out the application and send them their check. It’s that easy to get started!
Once you are at the event, marketing and pricing your products is key. Make your space really appealing. Have your products prominently displayed and clearly marked. Be sure to have adequate lighting and signage.
Have fun! Be friendly, smile and dress neatly. You’ll be amazed at how many will stop to speak to you and look at your products. A great way to create additional streams of income is to capture your customers name and email. After the event, send your potential customers information about the events you will at next. Offer a specific item after the event on sale. Remember to include shipping and handling.
Follow these simple steps and the next time you go to the county fair, maybe you’ll be putting cash into your pocket instead of putting it in someone else’s pocket.
