The Wallet Mailer is a direct mail piece that closely resembles a man’s folding leather wallet. It has room and pockets for imprints and inserts the size of credit cards, business cards, and currency such as might be found in a real leather wallet. A small business could use the wallet mailer in several ways to attract new business. Folded and ready to mail, it is the size of a postcard. One first class stamp will allow the insertion of four currency bill size sheets or one tri-folded 8.5 x 11 sheet plus one bill sized coupon.
It lends itself to marketing pitches and direct mail ideas which involve concepts like saving money, making money, or a tag line like ‘keep more money in your wallet’. It is a little bit more interesting for the recipient to open than another number 6 envelope. It could also serve as a hand out item at trade shows, conventions, or job fairs.
Direct mail ideas using the wallet-mailer include: sending five or ten business cards to existing, satisfied, customers. They could be encouraged to recommend the small business to their business contacts passing on the spare business cards when they do so. This type of mailing could also include a discount coupon for each new customer referred.
Other direct mail ideas might involve giveaways and contests. Bring the wallet ‘back’ to a salesman in return for a ‘reward’ which is a chance to buy a product at a better than normal discount. There could be a contest which involved matching a 7-12 digit number and each Mailer could have a unique number appearing as the driver’s license number printed on the inside.
A possible giveaway idea is to give a real leather wallet to the first thirty people to return a Wallet Mailer to the bank that sent it out. The first ten people who also opened an account could receive a savings bond to go in their leather wallet.
