Guide to Birmingham’s NEC Exhibition Centre

One of the busiest exhibition centers in the country, NEC was originally meant to be built in Leicester, but the county council felt that shows of this nature would never move away from London. As a result, Birmingham became home to the seventh largest exhibition centre in Europe!
The NEC hosts an astounding 180 exhibitions a year. The shows lined up for April’s represent a diverse range, including trade exhibitions like MACH 2008, Electrex 2008, IPFEX 2008, amongst many others. Towards the last week of April, there is also the National Engineering and Construction Recruitment Exhibition, which is open to the public.

The NEC consists of 21 exhibition halls of varying sizes as well as the large NEC Arena - a hall with the capacity to seat 12,300 people. There are other conference halls and arenas owned by the NEC Group in Birmingham such as the National Indoor Arena (NIA), International Convention Center (ICC) and Symphony Hall, all of which are located in the heart of the city.

The NEC has a total area of almost 200,000 square meters and the exhibition site is surrounded by ample car parking space. Since it can be quite a distance from the exhibition center, there are shuttle buses that ply to and fro, for the convenience of the visitors. This spacious exhibition center was inaugurated by the Queen in 1976, and subsequently, 12 years later, the Queen again opened three more halls, considerably adding to the space.

The NEC can be easily reached by road, rail or air; the road access is unparalleled with major motorways running on almost all the sides. Birmingham airport also makes it very convenient, connecting the city to the rest of the world, as well as being a mere stone throw’s away from the exhibition center. A Guide to Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is located in Wai Chai North, Hong Kong Island, overlooking the famous Victoria Harbour and the Tsim Sha Tsui. The impressive glass and chrome faade stuns visitors with its sheer size and brilliance. The convention centre is built to mimic a bird about to take flight, and the wall that faces the harbour is the largest glass wall in the world!

In figures, the convention centre comprises of 5 main exhibition halls, spanning a floor space of 46,600 square meters. Apart from these 5 exhibition halls, the remaining space is also divided into 2 convention halls, 2 theatre and, 52 meeting rooms. There are also 7 restaurants catering to the exhibitors and guests within. To give an estimate of the size, the centre can hold around 140,000 people at any given point of time.

The two buildings that currently make up the centre were built in two different phases: the first one in 1988, on land just off Gloucester Road, and the second building was built on an artificial island. The two are connected through an atrium link, which is currently under reconstruction.
There are plenty of events earmarked for the rest of the month; trade conferences like Christie’s Hong Kong Spring Auctions 2008, TETRA World Congress 2008, VINEXPO Asia Pacific 2008, and many more besides. Of the other kind, there is the 51st Summer Wedding Expo and the HK Makeup Fiesta incorporating 9th Beauty and Fitness Expo 2008.

Within easy reach is Hong Kong’s subway system, the MTR - Mass Transit Railway. The airport is accessible without much hassle through bus services that operate between the city and the airport. Apart from which, the convention centre can be reached using the ferries and city buses, allowing for a scenic path to the centre. What is Direct Response Marketing?

Direct response marketing is basically a method of marketing or advertising that is directed especially at viewer. Instead of mailing out an advertisement or a newsletter to potential customers the advertiser directly interacts with the viewer and in turn the customer responds directly to the marketer. Direct response marketing is done primarily through television or the radio. Advertisers use these types of media which is broadcasted directly to them in order to get that customer to contact them. Basically the advertiser broadcasts on whatever product or service they are offering to many customers at once, it is then up to the customer to directly respond to the advertiser by contacting them.

This type of marketing is very similar to direct marketing, but instead of the communication from the marketer to the customer being direct, it is the opposite in which the communication from the customer is directly to the marketer. Direct response marketing is a type of marketing that is beneficial because it can be tracked and measured in regards to results. It is a form of marketing that gets the customer to take action in order to contact the advertiser. There are different elements involved in direct response marketing in order to be successful. First there has to be an offer of some type presented to the customer. The most successful direct response marketing campaigns involved an offer this is highly compelling.

Next there has to be enough information presented to the customer in order to help them decide if they are going to contact the advertiser or not. If there is not adequate information for the customer to decide, they will invariably pass up the opportunity.
